...This was too much thinking and speculating for a guardian that preferred orders and decisions to be made for him. The more words spilled out around him, the more anxious he grew. Cascade's brief presence did nothing to explain and only had them ask more questions as the last remnant of pearl shell fell away and steam rolled forward. He swallowed dryly as he listened and he too recalled that Cascades instructions hadn't actually been for them to take the pearl. That was their decision, their conclusion when they found it floating above the hot fissure.
" I think we made a mistake, " he mumbled, mostly to himself, looking from the volcanic rock to the others. "I think we were meant to find it, but leave it in that hot water. I think it needs heat to... to grow? The city is empty so whatever creature ends up unfolding from this thing, it can do no harm there. If we keep it in the vault, well, who's to say how it might expand? I don't think the right choice is to keep it near, " he said slowly, thoughtfully, leave his words for the others to consider.
